International Literacy Association (ILA)
CRA Inc.’s parent organization, the mission of the International Literacy Association is to promote reading by continuously advancing the quality of literacy instruction and research worldwide. Since 1956, ILA has been a nonprofit, global network of individuals and institutions committed to worldwide literacy. More than 60,000 members strong, the Association supports literacy professionals through a wide range of resources, advocacy efforts, volunteerism, and professional development activities. Our members promote high levels of literacy for all by: improving the quality of reading instruction, disseminating research and information about reading and encouraging the lifetime reading habits.
Connecticut State Department of Education
The Connecticut Reading Association works in conjunction with the Connecticut State Department of Education‘s Center for Literacy Research and Reading Success. The Center for Literacy Research and Reading Success (Center) was established in 2021 by Commissioner Charlene M. Russell-Tucker, per C.G.S. Section 10-14gg, operating within the Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE). The Center is responsible for implementing Connecticut’s early literacy laws, regulations, and policies.
ILA Children's Choice List
Children’s Choices is a reading list with a twist, in which children themselves evaluate the books and write reviews of their favorites.
Since 1974, Children’s Choices has been a trusted source of book recommendations used by teachers, librarians, parents, and children themselves. The project is cosponsored by the International Literacy Association and the Children’s Book Council.
Connecticut Association for Reading Research (CARR)
The Connecticut Association for Reading Research is a dynamic organization that includes: classroom teachers, special education teachers, reading specialists, consultants, administrators, supervisors, college teachers, media specialists and students. The Connecticut Association for Reading Research (CARR) is a special interest council of the International Reading Association (IRA) and an affiliate of the Connecticut Reading Association (CRA). CARR is a professional organization concerned with the improvement of reading
National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE)
The National Council of Teachers of English is devoted to improving the teaching and learning of English and the language arts at all levels of education. This mission statement was adopted in 1990: “The Council promotes the development of literacy, the use of language to construct personal and public worlds and to achieve full participation in society, through the learning and teaching of English and the related arts and sciences of language.”
New England Council of Teachers of English (NEATE)
The New England Council of Teachers of English is a networking organization for English teachers in New England. It brings teachers together and provides resources that support and sustain literary professionals at all levels. NEATE hosts a large annual conference where New England’s English teachers can meet each other, hear diverse perspectives, and build relationships for a changing educational environment. NEATE provides awards and grants to veteran and novice teachers, hosts writing contests for students, and sponsors a poet of the year contest. In short, NEATE supports English teachers throughout the region.
