Virtual Book Club – Stamped: Racism, AntiRacism, and You
August 12, 2020 @ 7:30 pm - August 26, 2020 @ 8:30 pmFree
Looking to deepen your understanding of racism in order to engage in more meaningful race conversations with your students and colleagues?
Join CRA Inc. for our first book study in our new virtual series, featuring Jason Reynolds’ and Ibram X. Kendi’s STAMPED: RACISM, ANTIRACISM, AND YOU.
This book club consists of three sessions on Wednesdays, 7:30-8:30 pm via Zoom:
• August 12 – The Power of Language: The words we use matter. They have power. Explore key vocabulary from Stamped and examine language that has shifted.
• August 19 – Whose Voices Are Included, Whose Are Left Out: As the book points out, history is written by the victors. By its nature the story is told from one perspective. We will begin to examine which perspectives are included in our history and in our classroom libraries.
• August 26 – Bringing This New Understanding Back to Our Schools: You’ve read the book. What now? How do you bring this new understanding back to your classrooms in the fall? Let’s name our new understandings and lingering questions. We’ll also share picture book titles that can be used as mentor texts across K-12.
This is a FREE webinar, and open to both CRA members and non-members alike, as we work to give back to our education community! Please share with interested colleagues!
Register any time between now and August 26th at 4pm. If you miss a session, it will be posted for viewing on our YouTube channel within a day or so after it has occurred so you can catch up!
Your Zoom Invitation will arrive in your Cvent Registration Confirmation Email! If you do not receive a confirmation email, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
NOTE: When non-members/expired members register it will default to no membership fee but we welcome you to join or renew!
